Celtic
for Kids Concert by
Brigit's
Well
The
popular Celtic duo, Brigit's Well, is pleased to offer "Celtic
for Kids", a program of
traditional Irish, Scottish, and Manx songs for children. Brigit's
Well is award-winning
singer and Irish harper Barbary Grant and Aimee Aul on flute and backing
vocals.
This engaging program
features voices, Irish harp, flute, recorder, pennywhistle, accordion, fretted
dulcimer, and bowed psaltery. Children are welcome to try these
instruments out firsthand following the performance. Audience
participation, story-telling, and Irish dancing are guaranteed to engage even the
shortest attention spans.
Previous
performances of Celtic for Kids have generated enthusiastic praise; . .
. a spectacular opportunity for our children to enjoy their first
live concert of such a positive nature and high caliber. Barbary is
a gifted musician and music educator, said
Lynne Noel, Director of the Cupertino Co-op Nursery School. The
feedback we have received from not only our parents in attendance but also
from the general public was that the event was an unusually fine family
outing and that they only wish more such opportunities existed in our
community.

Barbary
performs many songs in Irish and Scots Gaelic. She has worked with several
private tutors to learn songs in their native languages. This homage won
her first place in the sean ns competition at the 1998 Great
American Irish Fair. (Sean ns - old style in Irish - is a
highly ornamented style of a cappella singing.) Recently she has
added Manx songs to her repertoire.
Barbary's
Celtic for Kids CD is Recommended by Parents' Choice (2002) and
will be available for purchase after the performance. She has recorded
three other CDs as well under the Changeling Records label: Soft Mild
Morning, Bonny at Morn, and
Brigit's Well.
A
suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 per family will be accepted at
the door.
